"My Bus and Coach Engineering Apprenticeship gave me a fantastic introduction to the industry. It has a strong practical element, so you quickly learn how to apply the knowledge you’ve learned in the classroom. Engineering is a very exciting sector with a lot of career potential, particularly with the move towards sustainable transport. The Leicester depot is about to become one of the first fully electric hubs in the country, so you feel you’re at the cutting edge of technology."

Mick, Engineering Manager previous Engineering Apprentice
“I started at First Bus as an apprentice coachbuilder, and I was based at an Engineering Support Depot. During my working week there would be times I attended college in blocks and then the rest of the time was work based learning. I gained a lot of skills and techniques that I required to carry out my job. After my apprenticeship I transferred to a depot as a Shift Coachbuilder and worked on an array of different vehicles doing lots of different jobs. Every day is certainly a different day. I was promoted to a Shift Supervisor then Engineering Manager running the workshop - an engineering workshop in the bus industry is a very fast paced environment and you are always busy!"

Morgan, Qualified Engineer previous Engineering Apprentice
"From the beginning, First Bus were very supportive, offering anything I needed to help me achieve my goals. The progression has always been there for me and the opportunities I have been given have been excellent. This apprenticeship is great for hands on people, so if you’re leaving school, or little mechanical knowledge, and even for people with previous mechanical you’ll learn it all at First Bus."
