First for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
Our strategy is to be leading on the Environmental, Social and Governance agenda and key to that is embracing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (ED&I). We believe our strength comes from the different skills, backgrounds and life experiences of our colleagues.
"As one team. First Bus is made up of thousands of very different colleauges. Our strength comes from the different skills, backgrounds and life expereicnes we all bring. I want to create a First Bus where everyone is welcome, feels that they can be their true self and believes that they can succeed in whatever they choose to do." Janette Bell, Managing Director, First Bus
Mentoring schemes
We launched our Reverse Mentoring Programme in 2023, where 20 male senior leaders are now mentored by women from across First Bus allowing their lived experiences to be shared and to help our senior leaders understand the challenges they face. We’ve also launched a Female Intentional Allyship Programme with over 100 women in First Bus, from drivers through to leadership positions. The programme aims to develop and mentor female colleagues by our senior leadership, we cover topics such as imposter syndrome, confidence, impact, gravitas, interview skills and techniques, and much more. We’re in the development stages of other mentoring schemes to fit the needs of our colleagues across the business.
Inclusion Networks
It’s a journey for us with a solid commitment to positive actions and outcomes for all of our people as part of our transformation programme. Being First for change means investing in our people in many ways, one being the creation of our Inclusion Networks.
The objective of the Inclusion Networks is to listen, learn, unlearn, relearn and act. The Inclusion Networks are an employee voice made up of colleagues from different Local Business Units and central support functions, at every level across our business.
