Everyone’s welcome at First Bus J13481_First_Bus_Pride_logo_RGB_AW-03.png

A team like ours depends on everyone being themselves at work and being part of a team that gets on together – it makes every day so much more enjoyable when you share the good and the not so good with those around you!

A person with a blurred face is shown wearing a dark jacket over a patterned shirt. The background is plain. Beneath the image, there is a block of text on a purple background. Text Content: "As one team, First Bus is made up of thousands of very different colleagues. Our strength comes from the different skills, backgrounds and life experiences we all bring. I want to create a First Bus where everyone is welcome, feels that they can be their true self and believes that they can succeed in whatever they choose to do." — Janette Bell, Managing Director, First Bus

Mentoring schemes

We launched our Reverse Mentoring Programme in 2023, where 20 male senior leaders are now mentored by women from across First Bus sharing their lived experiences which helps our senior leaders understand the challenges they face. We’ve also launched a Female Intentional Allyship Programme with over 100 women in First Bus, from drivers through to leadership positions. The programme is designed to develop and mentor female colleagues by our senior leadership. We cover the things that matter to women such as imposter syndrome, confidence, impact, gravitas, interview skills and techniques, and much more. We’re also developing other mentoring schemes to fit the needs of all of our colleagues across the business.

Inclusion Networks

It’s a journey for us with a solid commitment to positive actions and outcomes for all of our people as part of our transformation programme. Being First for Change means investing in our people in many ways, one being the creation of our Inclusion Networks.

Our Inclusion Networks listen, learn, unlearn, relearn and act. They are an employee voice made up of colleagues from different Local Business Units and central support functions, at every level across our business.

A graphic titled "Our Inclusion Networks" displays six icons, each representing a different inclusion network at First Bus. Each icon includes a title and a subtitle: Generations – Age Inclusion Network: Icon of three figures with arms raised. Enable – Disability Inclusion Network: Icon of a person in a wheelchair. Progress – LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Network: Icon of a mountain with a flag at its peak. Oxygen – Wellbeing Inclusion Network: Icon of a head profile with leaves inside. Origins – Ethnicity Inclusion Network: Icon of three diverse faces under a globe. Balance – Gender Inclusion Network: Icon of balanced scales.
