We're looking for an experienced, results-driven Head of Operations to join our leadership team and take responsibility for the safe, reliable, and customer-focused delivery of our London bus services.
As Head of Operations, you'll have direct line management of the General Managers at our London depots, ensuring operational excellence that meets all Transport for London (TfL) contractual requirements. You'll drive service quality, safety, efficiency, and employee engagement, playing a critical role in delivering on our commitment to London's passengers.
Key responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership and direct line management to depot General Managers across London.

Ensure safe, punctual, and reliable bus services that meet all TfL KPIs and contractual obligations.

Develop and implement operational strategies to improve service quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Oversee depot performance to deliver on safety, service, financial, and people targets.

Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Build effective working relationships with TfL, local authorities, trade unions, and other key stakeholders.

Drive employee engagement, development, and retention through your leadership team.

Ensure robust resource planning, scheduling, and rostering to meet service requirements.

Collaborate closely with Engineering, Commercial, and Finance functions to achieve business goals.

Monitor operational budgets, controlling costs while maintaining service quality.

Lead operational readiness for new contracts, routes, and depot transitions.

Report regularly to the Managing Director and executive team on performance, challenges, and plans.
We're seeking someone who brings:

Senior management experience in transport operations—ideally in the London bus market or a similar regulated environment.

A proven track record of leading and developing senior operational leaders (e.g. General Managers).

Strong understanding of TfL contract management, service standards, and performance frameworks.

Experience delivering operational excellence against strict KPIs.

Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams in a unionised environment.

Strong financial acumen and experience managing operational budgets.

Exceptional problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.

A deep commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service.

Ability to work collaboratively across functions and with external stakeholders.
Qualifications

Degree-level education (preferred but not essential).

Relevant management qualification (e.g. ILM, CMI) is advantageous.

Transport Manager CPC or equivalent is desirable.
