Are you a hands-on Engineering Manager ready to lead a team that keeps London's fleet safe, efficient, and on the road?
We're looking for a passionate, organised, and results-driven leader to oversee the engineering operations at our garage — ensuring every vehicle is maintained to the highest standards of reliability, safety, and presentation.

As part of our senior engineering management team, you'll play a key role in delivering a world-class transport service by managing resources, developing people, and driving continuous improvement across your department.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure all engineering staff understand and comply with company policies, Health & Safety, and statutory regulations.

  • Guarantee the daily peak vehicle requirement is met, ensuring all vehicles are clean, reliable, and VOSA-compliant.

  • Oversee maintenance, environmental, and health & safety compliance across company premises.

  • Lead and develop your team — managing recruitment, training, performance, and pay in line with company policies and union agreements.

  • Build and manage the engineering budget, driving cost efficiency and reducing waste.

  • Oversee vehicle maintenance scheduling, minimising lost mileage and improving fleet reliability.

  • Deliver effective record keeping and administrative processes, ensuring accurate documentation.

  • Collaborate closely with Operations to address issues swiftly and maintain service quality.

  • Drive continuous improvement by reviewing department performance and introducing innovative ideas.

  • Maintain high standards of workshop housekeeping, ensuring all equipment and premises are safe, tidy, and well-maintained.

  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring robust risk assessments, compliance with legislation, and full H&S reporting.

About You

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Manager, Supervisor, or Charge Hand in a transport engineering function (ideally buses).

  • Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and manage performance.

  • Excellent engineering knowledge with consistently high work standards.

  • Competent IT user – especially Excel and MS Outlook.

  • Experience managing budgets, reporting on variances, and delivering cost efficiencies.

  • Relevant Health & Safety Management qualification.

Desirable:

  • Full and current driving licence (PCV an advantage).

  • Logical and analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Highly organised, detail-focused, and calm under pressure.
