We're looking for a Data Engineer to help us strengthen the data foundations that power decision-making across First Bus.
You'll work as part of our central Data & Analytics team, building robust pipelines and models that support reporting, analytics, and data science use cases. This role is ideal for someone with a few years of engineering experience who enjoys collaborating with others and wants to make an impact by improving how data flows across a complex organisation.
What you'll be doing
- Build and maintain data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and SQL
- Create clean, well-structured datasets that support business reporting and analysis (e.g. fact/dimension models)
- Help modernise and maintain our data warehouse
- Work with analysts, scientists, and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into reliable data models
- Monitor pipeline performance and investigate failed loads or data quality issues
- Support efforts to improve governance – e.g. documenting pipelines, applying naming conventions, and ensuring consistency across tables
- Collaborate closely with the wider D&A team to align on standards and delivery priorities
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Strong SQL skills and a good understanding of relational databases
- Experience in at least one of Python and R
- Experience building pipelines in Azure Data Factory
- Exposure to cloud data platforms (ideally Azure)
- A collaborative working style – you're happy working with colleagues across analytics, data science, and the business to clarify needs
- A mindset focused on maintainability, reliability, and making datasets easier for others to use
