We're looking for an organised, hands-on Assistant Engineering Manager to help keep our fleet safe, compliant and ready for service at Hounslow Garage. You'll support daily operations, lead and develop the team and ensure our vehicles, workshop and safety standards are consistently high.

What You'll Do

• Ensure clean, reliable and roadworthy vehicles are available throughout the day
• Reduce engineering lost mileage by working closely with engineers and Operations
• Maintain all vehicles to First Bus London, TFL and DVSA standards
• Assist the Engineering Manager in building a high performing team by leading and mentoring Working Charge Hands as well as engineering staff
• Work collaboratively with Operations, Contractors and Trade Union representatives
• Deliver training, conduct risk assessments and meet all reporting requirements

About You

You're a proactive engineering professional with a strong technical background and the ability to lead by example. You thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and know how to get the best out of your team.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience as a Manager, Supervisor, or Working Charge Hand in a transport engineering function (ideally buses)
• Strong people management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and manage performance
• Excellent engineering knowledge with consistently high work standards
• Competent IT user – especially Excel and MS Outlook
• Experience managing budgets, reporting on variances, and delivering cost efficiencies
• Relevant Health & Safety Management qualification

Desirable:

• Full and current driving licence (PCV an advantage)
