First Group has a fantastic opportunity for an Internal Audit Manager to our audit team on a full time permanent basis. This is a home-based role with the potential for up to 50% travel across the UK and Ireland (Dublin).
The Internal Audit Manager will deliver the annual internal audit plan and provide independent assurance on governance and internal control processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Group Senior Internal Audit Manager in delivering the Group internal audit plan.
- Manage, lead and deliver risk-based and compliance audits in line with professional standards and the GIA methodology, from research/planning through fieldwork and report delivery to follow up of agreed actions.
- Write clear, impactful audit reports, which are factual, relevant and value-adding.
- Review audit work performed by GIA colleagues and give feedback.
- Support the bi-annual internal audit planning process.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of management across FirstGroup.
- Develop and maintain a good working knowledge of the key business activities and changes across FirstGroup.
- Maintain the GIA methodology, templates and standard work programmes (e.g. health-checks).
- Provide management information to GIA management, the Audit Committee, and the business as required.
- Deputise for the Group Senior Internal Audit Manager as required.
- Support special investigations as required.
Skills/Experience
- Audit skills: demonstrable ability to lead end-to-end internal audits with minimal supervision, ensuring thorough planning, execution, reporting and follow-up. Substantial experience focused on executing risk-based financial, commercial, and operational audits. Experience of reviewing audit work papers and draft reports and providing feedback.
- Professional qualification: a recognised internal audit or accounting qualification (CMIIA, CIA, ACA, ACCA, CISA).
- Business acumen: demonstrates a good understanding of risk, control and governance in a complex operations and/or customer focused organisation. Experience in the development, review and updating of audit policies, procedures and templates.
- Communication skills: excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex messages, influence stakeholders, and manage challenging discussions. Strong writing skills to effectively communicate audit results to management via written reports.
- Critical thinking: an ability to evaluate audit results and formulate conclusions about areas for improvement.
- Organisation skills: demonstrates effective time, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Data analytics experience is preferred.
