About the role
You will work in collaboration with the depot leadership team, enhance vehicle safety and reliability while reducing costs by diagnosing and addressing vehicle defect trends, and implementing corrective actions. As the shift technician, you will conduct vehicle diagnostics, repairs, inspections, servicing, and parts replacement in line with central Engineering Standards and Operating Procedures. Your role is to also provide supervisory support for the engineering function in the absence of the Engineering Supervisor. Therefore, a certain level of flexibility with working hours and readiness to operate across the South Yorkshire business as needed is imperative.
Main responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Vehicle fault diagnostics and repair including mechanical, electrical, body, whilst carrying out inspections and servicing.
- Support the management team to improve fleet safety, reliability, presentation and reduce costs
- Manage breakdown calls, carryout roadside assistance & road testing of vehicles ensuring minimal disruption to service delivery.
- Ensure accurate records are kept especially VOR log, wheel retorque log, 14-day tyre check sheet, fuel and oil leak check sheet, Inspection sheets, servicing sheets and parts booking sheet.
- To provide guidance to other staff as required to include apprentice mentoring.
- Undertake audits
Working shifts: 3 week rotations, multiple shifts consisting of earlys and lates (will explain in detail at interview stage).
About you
- You must have a minimum level 3 NVQ standard or equivalent (City & Guilds level 1 & 2)
- You must have working experience in either bus or coach, HGV/PSV mechanics
- You will have a valid UK drivers licence and have an ability to obtain your PCV licence (First Bus will help with this).
- You must be willing to undertake management training as provided by First Bus.
- You must be a UK resident
- Must be willing to undertake a drugs & alcohol test.
