Working for First Bus offers a real opportunity to build a rewarding career in a vital industry. You’ll be part of a team that keeps communities moving, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer service. The company values development, invests in its people, and provides structured pathways to grow — whether you want to become a fully qualified engineer, move into leadership, or explore other roles within the business.
As an Engineering Apprentice, you’ll:
- Learn on the job: You get hands-on experience with real vehicle maintenance and repair from day one, working alongside experienced technicians.
- Earn while you learn: Apprenticeships combine paid work with structured training, so you’re gaining qualifications without the student debt.
- Get supported: You’ll have mentors at your depot and at college, regular reviews, and a development plan tailored to you.
- Build real skills: You work with tools, systems and technologies used in modern transport engineering — from diagnostics to servicing and fleet care.
- Be valued: Your contribution matters. Apprentices are trusted with responsibility, encouraged to ask questions, and recognised when they excel — as shown by our recent awards success.
In short, First Bus is a place where you can start a career with strong support, practical experience, and long-term prospects, all while playing a part in keeping communities connected.

Have a question of your own?
I am currently doing my PVC training and have my test on the 19th May. Once I pass (hopefully) I am after doing either part time driving or ad-hoc bus driving work. Is this something you offer?

It says "Held a driving licence for 6 months". Does this mean simply having a licence for 6 months or driving experience of 6 months?
