I have D entitlement of my driving license, but haven’t driven on this since 1999, and would like to know what I need to be up-to-date with today’s policy

Richard B. asked a question to Derek H.

What training do I require? So I can drive bus or coaches.

That’s a great question, especially with your previous Category D entitlement.

Although you already hold D entitlement, as you haven’t driven professionally since 1999 you would likely need to get up to date with current requirements. This could include:

    Completing a new PCV medical
Ensuring your Driver CPC is valid (or completing the required CPC modules if it has lapsed)
Undertaking refresher training to meet current driving and safety standards

The simplest and most supported route would be to apply through one of our Trainee Bus Driver vacancies. Even with previous entitlement, this allows us to:

Review your licence and advise what is still valid
Guide you through any medical or CPC requirements
    Provide any necessary refresher training
Support you through testing if required

Applying through a trainee pathway means you’re fully supported and brought up to today’s standards in a structured way. When applying, just let the team know about your existing Category D entitlement and when you last drove professionally, and they’ll advise you on the next steps
